AC / INVACAR TYPE 70 INVALID CARRAGE

This Invacar is a rare survivor of the Government funded invalid mobility system. These tricycles were supplied to registred disabled people by the State prior to the currant system offering a grant to convert a car of your choice. The Type 70 was the pick of the crop from the various designs and manufacturers of Invalid Carriages and Invalid Tricycles in the '70's. Not least as it offers the benifits of generous and reliable power from the Steyr Puch flat twin engine similar to that found in Haflingers and licence built Steyr Puch 600/650 Fiats, which in tuned form outperformed the original tuned Fiat 500 versions. In this instalation it drives a belt powered automatic reversable drive system similar to that on a DAF Variomatic gearing the top speed to about 70 mph - seems to vary on settings. Most of the parts for the car are easy to obtain being Girling, British parts bin, Fiat or Steyr so there is little drama on maintanance. Not only that but there is a growing club for all invalid tranportation devices under the banner title of The Invalid Carriage Register. The over engineered platform chassis and bolted on bodyshell along with a Government backed maintainance programme mean that the few cars not scrapped by Act of Parliment are in very sound condition other than the effects of whatever storage they were hidden in. Until recently it was technically illeagal to own these machines unless you found one of very few privately owned machines as they were property of the State. 20 years on these few surviving cars are now recognised as historic cars in thier own right and dispensation is now given that they be privately owned and issued with age related V5C registration on the legal footing of being a tricycle not an invalid carriage. This in responce from representation from the ICR. That is not to say they cannot be re-classified as invalid carriages but this is not as automatic as might be assumed. The ICR by whom this car for sale was saved will benifit from some of the sale price which will go back into the Register to cover costs of its activities having regularised the status of and created a new area of Microcar activity.

This is an example of an Invacar you can buy. There are two spare which were found as part of a selection of vehicles never crushed by a scrapyard given the contract to process the returned cars. The entire collection represented the standing stock of the dealer and was of serviced machines awaiting placement and thus the last to be decommissioned. Most are to immediately join collections. They have been stored in a part covered area and one is now being put through the workshop to sort out the few problems it has gained in storage. The brake system is to be overhauled and tyres replaced along with servicing but in line with Government policy these cars were in very good order in store so little needs changing after cleaning/restoration. Mechanically it has been given the once over and several problems solved. It is a standard handlebar model so has no pedals. The brakes are controled by depressing the steering mounting and it has a hand throttle on the steering bar. The car is supplied nigh on to MOT standard and awaiting registration. It is in good order and original throughout as so little needed altering. A little cracker. Probobly available in March.

1,500 - Oxfordshire, Registration obtained for an additional 250 and MOT at cost plus time

NEW MESSERSCHMITT SUPER WINGS AND AIRDAM

These are an enhancement to a KR200 for several reasons. Made from GRP moulds taken from the faithfully made Russell Church Messerschmitt Super Replica, as seen in Classic and Thoroughbred Cars, these wings and air dam offer far greater aerodynamic advantage to the standard KR200 wings. When tested with the same engine in a standard KR200 and the Super the replica was able to pull a higher final drive drive sprocket and achieved some 8 - 10 miles an hour greater speed on the flat. Now clearly you will not gain that much by just by bolting them on a KR200 but what you will get is a better performance at speed and a higher average cruising speed A to B and, of course, better economy. A second reason they are used is because they offer enough room for 10 inch wheels to be fitted underneath as Harry Conners has done, along with uprated brakes. A third reason is the wings profile make them very much stronger than the standard design and they are ideal for use with a GRP nose be it fitted to a KR200 or Tri Tech, which benifits greatly from the addition of these wings. Lastly, a matter of taste, but I think they look far better on a KR200 than the standard wings, see pic of finished and otherwise standard car.

As stated these are GRP mouldings made with high quality matting and minimal resin filler. The wings bolt on just as the standard wings do but the centre air dam will need to be trimed to fit. It is then suggested you fill the space inside with expanding foam trimed back for neatness. This increases effciency and prevents muck filling the spaces. The three panels come as a set and are new unused.

MESSERSCHMITT KR200 SPORT

This is a complete set of parts loose assembled to build into a replica Messerschmitt KR200 Sport. Of course if you have a spare door then it could simply become a KR200 or KR201. The basis of the car is a set of original frames, chassis number 71442, which have been repanelled by Jim Hacking, steel expert, with new sides and floorpan, just surface finishing for paint. The steel nose requires restoration but the boot is a very good steel item with very minor work required before paint finnishing. The wings are new GRP items but I have a pair of steel ones if you feel you want to restore them, either/or. The Sport top is a set of new steel panels being the two sides and screen support panel. The screen pattern is available. So only the nose requires serious metalwork. The panels sit on an original set of unrestored rolling suspension with steering and fittings. The interior is black with white piping. The instruments and lighting complete with wiring loom is all present. There is even a set of old cables. The engine is a Bosch one which is complete as removed from a car and not mucked about. The Bosch dynostarter unit tests OK and is fitted and the engine rotates freely, clearly a rebuild unit though. The black box is also complete, all engine bay parts are present including a steel mudguard. So a great project for rebuilding into a Sport or KR200/201 if you source the parts required. This represents a complete car, mostly with restored/new panels, do not confuse it with a pile of bits with all the hard to get stuff missing. I am working on attempting to find out the registration but failing that it will obtain an age related historic registration on presentation to the DVLA via normal means. If for export I can generate the required paperwork for normal registration requirements in most countries if required. The car can be dismantalled and fit in a reasonable sized estate if desired. More pictures can be made available.

5,000 - Oxfordshire - UNDER OFFER

Messerschmitt KR200 is the most common derivitive produced by FMR of Regensburg, Germany. They are not made of redundant aircraft parts but were made in a factory owned by Willie Messerschmitt and designed by an aero engineer, Fritz Fend. The result has clear aircraft practice incorparated in the construction and was a leap ahead of the normal vehicle engineering of the time. The Sachs engine was specifically modified for the cars and was, at the time, one of the better small capacity engines available. Together they make for suprisingly good performance, beating standard scooters - more aerodynamic, and things like Ford Pops and Morris Minor Sidevalves by dint of structural advances - being a true monocoque construction of only 220 kg. Top speed is 62 mph but cruising speed a more realistic 55 to 58 mph unless tuned. From 1955 to 1961 the cars sold well and struggled on to 1965 before ceasing to trade at a total production over 20,000 units. Now the cars are popular again there are not enough to go around, spares availability has never been better and the cars have earned the right to be treated as a true classic on their own terms after years of rejection by the normal classic car movement

FOR SALE

MESSERSCHMITT K200 CABRIO

This is a very early 1958 ring badge original Cabriolet, possibly the third oldest in Britain, with an interesting history. I have the old green logbook, club archive shows that it was owned by Len Drake. He used to be at Testwood Motors and probobly drove all the TG500's they had through thier hands so an interesting man with many a tale to tell. It has had other well known owners too in its 50 plus years including Ian Andrews. It would seem it was restored from a bit of a tired state in the '90's with replacement floor, sides and other proper panel replacements by Martyn Wright. He sold it on to a chap who promptly took it apart and rebuilt it to his own specification. In this form it was put back on the road in 2003 but proved an unsuccessful effort. I then bought the car and have since reworked this last restoration returning the car to the original form Martyn had achieved. The car is now assembled correctly, to original specification and reliable. This includes NEW black with red piped interior and head rest, floor mat, clutch, engine rebuild, dash lights, trim, exhaust system, rebuilt dynostarter, door handle, cables, wiring, etc etc. It features an optional extra boot rack and wheel trims. 2007 it was used reasonably hard and even did a tour of Norfolk with a Zundapp and Bond on holiday. 2008 it was used lightly and it has hardly been used this year as it is surplas to my collection. It has a currant V5C with transferable number as an Historic Car. It represents an ideal car to drive and/or show and is better than most of the offerings that come up. With the rising prices of Messerschmitts it is a bit of a bargain at the advertised price.

FOR SALE

MESSERSCHMITT KR200 to restore

COMING SHORTLY - WELL GONE SHORTLY BY THE LOOKS OF IT!

A complete part restored Messerschmitt KR200 with V5C registration. This is what most buyers want to find as it is a structurally very good set of steel panels just awaiting some minor adjustments and finishing before painting. There is a set of steel wings but they are in a poor way so the car is set to have GRP wings which are with the car. There is a full set of original good lights, electrics, switches and speedo. There is a set of ali trim and a good window frame set. The mechanicals are all assembled and on the car, up to you over the level of finish on these but they will go pretty much as they are. The engine is a complete unit which is turning, I have tested the dynostarter which is good. The interior has already been done in Black with White piping and looks very good. Because this car is a complete rolling car you can be certain that everything is present. It is the simplest restoration you will ever find really and I am only selling as I have to many projects in hand.

FOR SALE

CHURCH POD SINGLE SEAT CAR

One of only five produced this is an unused set of parts to create a Pod. It comes already registered as a pre SVA Tricycle with a V5C and chassis plate so very cheap tax and no insurance problems. Indeed the V5C represents a large proportion of the value as it is not very specific and could be used on just about any trike project, thus the car is priced with or without registration. In addition it would be possible to have the car built up for a youngster on a moped license.

The project for sale consists of the five white unused body panels which assemble as shown in the picture by bolt and bond. The windscreen is Ford Mondeo placed on end, not included. The other picture shows the full set of spaceframe chassis parts, steering parts and power mounting pates. This steel tube chassis is very stiff and is designed to take Messerschmitt front suspension, steering and brake parts which are available new or second hand. Alternatively modifications exist to have hydraulic brakes with one Pod having Vespa disc brakes. The choice is yours but a simple approach exists and a set of wheels are available. Power comes from the twist and go scooter of your choice, preferably front damaged and cheap. The main frame yolk/stock is adapted to mount the plate and the entire rear of the scooter is mounted onto the rear of the Pod. Then the electrics and controls are linked into the Pod. I have a Huntsman bucket seat to fit in. Finished the Pod offers either great economy as a commuter car or potential for quite rapid performance. If the scooter seat is left in situ it is possible to have two pillion passingers like a Stimson Scorcher.

A chance to create a unique machine unlike anything on the road and such a good idea it really deserved to be more successful, perhaps in Asia. Suitable Honda Foresight 250cc scooter available for 400.

750 or without V5C 500

ALAN'S UNUSUAL AUTOS

SALES PAGE - closed down

Since my business ceased on BUSINESS CLOSED DOWN- April 2007

THE RANT - stays by popular demand, if you like this then read Ted Nugent

Alan's Unusual Autos is officially ended in spring 2007. This is in the main thanks to the conditions created for trade in the UK by our wonderful Government and it's lack of support for small business. It is no longer viable to run a small business such as mine. It has run the cycle of Thatcherism where as young businessmen we were encouraged to look after ourselves and start small businesses into today where all that success has sporned a society that is out of control spending the profits on restrictive practices and inspectors. The tax burdon has all but doubled to the extent that a subsistance activity like I have been operating is unsustainable (perhaps even unbelievable to the authorities).
I looked at the option of enlarging the business. This shows the cost of investing in the showroom I now own for public access is too great unless we are talking 100 odd cars to provide sufficient turnover to pay the bills. I do not want to run a business like that anyway as it would need employees of some sort. Even if I did expand I would have to pay tax on the investment in stock, all a positive disincentive for investment in business so like many I am going to build on the industrial site which profits me but provides no further income for anyone else. Now my current private storage has gained a council rate value of 150% of the rental paid for tennancy! I am lucky as I own a property into which I can escape but half the cars have been sold off. My chums down there will probobly mostly be forced to sell up without cheap accomidation. My various outworking chums, welding, painting etc. have suffered the same problems and ceased trading or emmigrated. I can no longer purchase economic outsourced skills locally as the inspectors we paid for have chased us out of low cost activity. Might look good on paper but that economy was worth a lot of money to the state. So the only option left is to quit while I am ahead. It is now official I am retiring at 50 years of age, nice target but not something I really expected to do for real.
The few cars left to Alan's Unusual Autos are cleared and the trading operation has ceased. Alan's Unusual Autos will be retained as an umbrella name. This page of www.bubblecars.com is now for cars I wish to sell privately. Some of these are a my private cars from my private collection some are friends cars. It is clearly cheaper for many of us to not work. As far as I am concerned the Government employees and immigrants can pay for me to do sod all after the huge amount of tax I have had to pay instead of my supporting them further by my entrepinural skills risking my own hard earned money in business ventures which they then interfer with. Should there be any doubt this means I do not restore customer cars any longer, nor will do so unless we can vote in someone who supports small business rather than attempt to rip them off and restrict their ability to trade. Bit political but I do not like liars and cheats.

Update - looks like I did the right thing as the situation got worse!
